Battle Guide
HOW TO GUIDE FOR CHALLENGING

Say what? What's a battle?
Battling on Arabian Nights has several different names, such as challenging, fighting, sparring and, of course, battling. In the wild, a stallion may challenge another stallion for a certain area or his herd. The same goes for Arabian Nights - this board is where you may challenge another character to win something he has that you want.

What can I challenge for?
Seemings as Arabian Nights is only a game, we've stretched the rules of reality to allow a little more fun. The things you may challenge for are:

  • a territory
  • a mare
  • a whole herd
  • freedom from a stallion (mares only)

How do I issue a challenge?
This is an example post for a territory:
I, White Stallion challenge Black Stallion for Outward Inlet.

    To challenge for freedom:
I, Grey Mare challenge my stallion Black Stallion for freedom.

You just change the words in bold to fit your requirements. Please remember that these are only guidelines - you can post however you like :).

What's the deal with the Health/Points table?
This was created and introduced by our very own Battlemaster, Khan. It adds an element of reality to the game by issuing injuries and healing time as well as keeping track of your points. Here's how it works:

    Challenging:
If you win a challenge, you get one point.

    Sparring:
If you win a spar, you get five points, if you lose you get 2 points.

Each time you get 20 points, you will gain one number on your defense. If horses with extra points breed, their foal may start with more than 10 defense points or other fighting bonuses (read further down to have this explained more).

All horses must be at full health to fight (20/20). We will be sure to post how many days are left in your recovery each day. Until your char is at full health, he cannot challenge and cannot be challenged by another.

This table will be posted in TEXT form on the board every few days. It is essential that you check this list before challenging because if you are not fit to challenge Khan will cancel your challenge.

  • Please note that in each battle the dice is rolled for each character. So not only will the challenger be hurt, but also the horse they challenged may sustain injuries as well.

What do the points I gain do?
Every battle you fight in and WIN, you recieve 1 point, and for 20 points you can you will recieve a number advantage. A number advantage means that your particular character is issued with an extra point of defense. All regular horses get 5 attack points, and mains get 6.

How else can I get points?
New to Arabian Nights: We now have a sparring program that will allow you to gain battle points faster. If you receive 20 points, you gain an extra point of defense in your challenges. Here's how it works:

Spars are role played battles between two horses (can be any gender). Both horses must be over the age of 1 year to spar. In these battles, nothing is gained except for points, so you don't have to worry about losing a position, a land, or a mare in your herd. However, if you are repeatedly successful, it may affect your reputation within a herd. You will be paired according to skill level by a battle moderator. There will be both a minimum and maximum word count, which adjusts with the skill level of each battle. Customized instructions will be given before each fight begins. Here's how this works:

Each character is allowed one attack, and one defense. The format is as follows:
    Attack 1 (Brownie)
    Defense 1, Attack 1 (Sparkle)
    Defense 1 (Brownie)

All attacks must land, so that means you cannot avoid any attack entirely. Your attacks will be judged on realism, execution, and effectiveness. Your defense will be judged on damage taken, execution, and effectiveness. Additional points may be added for detail, grammar, and description of weather conditions.

If you win a spar, your character will receive 5 battle points. If you lose, you will receive 2. This is to encourage everyone to at least try and improve their battle skill.

    How are the results determined?
Arabian Nights' Battlemaster, Khan, will use a special dice rolling program to determine who wins the battle. Here are the basics:

  • Each horse starts with 10 defense. Regular horses attack based on a 5 sided dice. Once a number is rolled, that number is subtracted from the defense. So here's an example:

Se7en vs. Heart of Stone for Kalix Canyon (territory)
    Se7en: +6 Attack Power, +10 Defense Power
Heart of Stone: +6 Attack Power, +10 Defense Power

    Round 1:
Se7en's attack - number rolled 4 (HOS defense now 6)
    Heart of Stone's attack - number rolled 3 (Se7en defense now 7)

    Round 2:
Se7en's attack - number rolled 3 (HOS defense now 3)
    Heart of Stone's attack - number rolled 3 (Se7en defense now 4)

    Round 3:
Se7en's attack - number rolled 3 (HOS defense now 0)
    Heart of Stone's attack - number rolled 2 (Se7en defense now 2)

    Winner: Se7en

And then health will be given. Keep in mind that main characters can attack 1-6, instead of 1-5. If your character has extra points, this adds to defense (ie if you have 20 points, you then start at 11 defense points).

What do you do if there is a tie?
If both horses make it to or past zero in the same round, we will let the defense go negative and the one that is further in the negative will lose. If there is a tie, we will roll a regular dice to determine the outcome.

    Are there any restrictions?
    Sure are:

  • Your character must have 20/20 health to fight.
  • Your character must be 2 years or older.
  • You MUST post all the required information.

I keep losing! It's not fair!
This one is a common complaint. To put it bluntly, it's not our fault. The dice decides and Khan holds no prejudices against any characters or people and there is most certainly no infliction of favouritism. Suggestion of this will result in harsh consequences and penalties. We do not, at all, tolerate sulks or bad losers. If you want to complain, take it up with fate, luck and chance because we can't do anything about it.

    Disqualification information.
If your challenge was cancelled, Khan may or may not leave information as to why. The most common reasons are:

  • You didn't post all the required information.
  • You don't have 20/20 health.
  • You have a restriction/penalty against you.
You are not permitted to take it upon yourself to accuse, but you may question Khan's motives in a NICE fashion. Any issues can to be taken directly to Shannon.
